All this hocus-pocus about air pollution could be incomprehensible to a person living in Montana. You will see things through different eyes, though, once the air gets to be visible, and a deep breath makes you long for the country - a not atypical metropolitan scenario. Nowhere in the world is actually free from air pollution; if a place doesn't make its own, it merely wafts in naturally, since there are no pollution border controls.

All of these particles come in various sizes, composition and origin, and one of the biggest components is automobile emissions. The worsening air pollution conditions are a result of the congested streets, especially in the biggest cities around the world.

You can't smell it, you can't see it, although if the air is polluted you'll find it present in large quantities - carbon monoxide. Cigarette smoking and gasoline-powered vehicles are classified as the main sources. Because it reduces the level of oxygen, it harms our bodies and can even kill it when levels are high enough. Respiratory illnesses are being caused by carbon monoxide, even being assimilated by the body in small amounts over a long period of time. Many of the world's medical problems are due to ingesting carbon monoxide. There are wide ranging studies showing how negative the effects are with air pollutants, especially from cars, but also factories.

It is clear from the studies that from one city to another the pollutants observed to be present and their effects are very different. Toxins from traffic were found to be responsible for a greater mortality rate, in an eight year study involving five thousand adults. Those who live in close proximity to a busy road usually tend to die from a cardiovascular disease, such as a heart attack. The life expectancy of individuals dwelling in the worst-polluted cities of the US will be decreased by 2 to 3 years, directly as a result of the pollution carried in the air. The conclusion of scientists is that a cardiovascular event, resulting in death, will happen to people even if they only have short-term exposure to particle pollution at increased levels.

In places where the particle pollution is in increased concentrations, there are definitely more admissions to hospitals for various cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. You can expect to live a few years less should you have been living in an area having an elevated level of particle pollution. You have to conclude that if matters continue being unchanged, the future for American people looks bleak . If the future is to be prevented from being worse than now, improved ways of regulating pollution from vehicles really needs to be found.
